Problem discovery का मतलब है build करने से पहले वो problem ढूँढना जो solve करने लायक है। दो चीज़ें check करो: volume (कितने लोगों को यह problem है) और depth of pain (कितना ज़्यादा दर्द देती है)। Discovery छुपे हुए pain को सामने लाती है; उसे invent नहीं करती। अच्छे ideas को असली user pain और एक viable market, दोनों चाहिए।

Porter's Five Forces बताता है कि market structurally attractive है या नहीं: new entrants, substitutes, buyer power, supplier power, rivalry. Class examples: IRCTC, Urban Company, EdTech. यह एक sanity check है, हाँ/ना बताने वाली machine नहीं।

Competitive analysis direct rivals और substitutes की तुलना करता है; benchmarking उसे decisions में बदलता है (features, price, performance, positioning)। Class case - Uber का India में two-wheeler EV rides में आना - इसमें SWOT, sizing, Five Forces और kill criteria use हुए। Research risk कम करती है; उसे कभी पूरी तरह हटाती नहीं। Prototypes या painted-door tests से सस्ते में test करो।
