Part 1: What a product is, and what a PM does

Product sirf "koi cheez jo exist karti hai" nahi hota. Yeh ek real problem ka solution hai, ek specific group of people ke liye bana hua, jo baar-baar value deta hai, scale par. Ek burger bhi product ban jaata hai jab aap decide kar lete ho ki woh kiske liye hai, price kya hoga, packaging kaisi hogi aur launch kaise karoge.
Pehle segment chuno. Swiggy aur Zomato "sabke liye" nahi hain - woh busy professionals aur bachelors ke liye hain jo khaana nahi banana chahte. Segway cool dikhta tha, lekin bike se better koi real problem solve nahi karta tha, isliye flop ho gaya. PhonePe/UPI isliye jeeta kyunki logon ko baar-baar pay karna padta hai - repeatability hi scale karti hai.
- Products ecosystems hote hain. Class example - food delivery: order → restaurant khaana banata hai → delivery partner pick up karke deliver karta hai → tracking → support. Ek tap ke peeche poora system chhupa hai.
- Class example - UPI free start hua taaki friction hate aur pehle habit bane, aur zarurat pade to baad mein monetise karo (Jio internet ki tarah).
- B2C (Swiggy, Zoom): jaldi decisions, metrics jaise DAU/MAU, retention, conversion. 100 downloads bina use ke = zero value.
- B2B (Slack, Zoho, Figma): committee kharidti hai, sales mein mahine lagte hain, metrics hain ARR, NRR, churn, account health.
- B2B2C (Swiggy restaurants ko aapse jodta hai), C2C/P2P (OLX), marketplaces (Airbnb). Hamesha poocho: value kisko milti hai, aur pay kaun karta hai?
PM ka kaam: source of truth banna, stakeholders manage karna, prioritise karna, aur bina authority ke influence karna. Root cause fix karo, symptom nahi - paani ka puddle pochte mat raho; use pipe leak tak trace karo, aur leak ko high pressure tak. Skills: execution, communication, tech basics (APIs, PRD vs BRD) aur business sense.
